BEWARE OF THIS BUS COMPANY. We recently took the 8:45am bus from Baños to Cuenca. Unusually, people were sitting in our assigned seats, so the driver suggested that we sit in another set of seats nearer the back. There was a man seated behind, let's call him X. Instead we chose to sit on the opposite side of the aisle. At this point, the driver took my back from me and put it in the overhead storage. I took it down immediately and placed it by my feet so I could keep an eye on it. At some point, X moved and sat behind us. At the time we didn't think much of it, but after a while realised our bags had been robbed and our valuables stolen. X was clearly a professional as we did not sleep on the bus and did not notice anything unusual. Unfortunately by the time we realised what had happened, X had already left the bus. We immediately reported the theft to the driver and he smirked, saying we should have kept our things closer. We also asked about CCTV footage though he brushed us off. I believe the driver actively played a role in our possessions being taken. Please avoid this bus company if possible. If you are forced to take this bus - I realise it's the only one from Baños to Cuenca - take extra precautions by keeping your bag on your lap. We are not the first or last to have been robbed on this bus.

TERRIBLE company with zero responsibility! During our trip Cuenca - Baños our belongings got stolen (camera, professional gear, etc). Even though the bus we took had a camera, the police and the company itself did not have access to it and nothing could be done! The company should have mentioned it’s unsafe leaving your belongings in overhead luggage racks, but instead they made a lot of micro stops during the way and picked up people without documents.
We travelled to Ecuador from another part of the world, paid a lot of money for tickets and came to this country bringing money to the tourism, but instead our belongings got stolen. Ruined holiday. I am not sure we will travel again to Ecuador, feel very unsafe here.
