I booked a coach from Essaouira to Casablanca, as the CTM was fully booked.
The bus was 45 mins and it was free for all trying to get a seat, despite booking one online. The bus station staff asked us to pay for our luggage, which we did (20 MAD for each suitcase). The driver then requested we pay him for our cases and refused to put them on the coach until we did. Thankfully we were able to locate the station staff we had paid, who spoke to the driver on our behalf. We were told that the 6.5 hour bus journey did not have any stops for refreshments or toilets. Despite this, the bus made numerous stops to drop off and pick up more passengers. Sellers come knto rhe bus during stops to sell cakes, mobile accessories, and bits and bobs. Another man on the bus with his child to beg for money.
It was more like a public bus, with passengers having to sit on the floor when there were no free seats. The interior of the bus is old, worn and dirty. The air-conditioning does not appear to work, just blowing out warm air. A few passengers had to retrieve the roof hatch as it was blowing off in the wind!
I deeply regret booking a seat on this bus, not that booking one was required as they just pile people on regardless. We will be sticking with CTM bus company for all our ongoing journeys.
