They t ... The bus ran out of diesel and I arrived 4 hours late; I missed my job commitment and my lift. I sent email to Intercape to inquire how they will rectify my dissatisfaction, loss and suffering. They took no accountability or had any empathy, rather used a marketing technique of some % off on next trip (as if there’ll be a next trip…). Very disappointed in the service!

The trip was scheduled to depart at 02:45 AM and arrive in Alice by 10:10 AM—a journey Intercape estimated ... I booked an Intercape bus for Tuesday, 3 June 2025, traveling from Plettenberg Bay to Alice. The trip was scheduled to depart at 02:45 AM and arrive in Alice by 10:10 AM—a journey Intercape estimated would take 7 hours and 25 minutes. Instead, it turned into a 15-hour nightmare that raises serious concerns about the safety, maintenance, and operational oversight of your fleet. The problems started before boarding. I received an SMS informing me that the bus would be 1 hour and 15 minutes late due to “operational circumstances”—which, in basic terms, meant the bus had broken down. The replacement vehicle arrived just after 5 AM. Unbelievably, two hours into the journey, the bus broke down again. We were stranded roadside for three hours while repair attempts were made. At this point, I should have already reached my destination. But the ordeal continued: a few hours later, the bus broke down a third time. Let me be clear: this is completely unacceptable. A single breakdown is frustrating. Three in one trip is a safety hazard. Who is servicing these buses? Are they being inspected by independent, qualified professionals before being sent out onto the road? I ultimately arrived at Alice just after 5 PM, having spent the better part of the day on the side of the road, exhausted, delayed, and deeply frustrated. Intercape once had a reputation for safety, professionalism, and reliability. That standard clearly no longer applies. Unless you are willing to waste an entire day and gamble with unreliable transport, I strongly advise finding another travel provider. I would like to know from INTERCAPE how ffected passengers will be compensated for the extreme inconvenience and safety risk.

I was travelling from Pietermaritzburg to Johannesburg. Just after we passed Howick, the bus overheating so the driver could drive any further. We had to wait for the bus that was from Durban an we wa ... I was travelling from Pietermaritzburg to Johannesburg. Just after we passed Howick, the bus overheating so the driver could drive any further. We had to wait for the bus that was from Durban an we waited for good 2 hours, there was no communication from the driver until the passengers enquired as to what the issue. We arrived in JHB 2 hours late. This was the horrible trip I’ve had and i wouldn’t recommend Intercape to anyone.

I had an awful experience with Intercape on both trips between Cape Town and Johannesburg. First, I booked a Mainliner but was placed on a Big Sky bus without any notice or explanation. First, I booked a Mainliner but was placed on a Big Sky bus without any notice or explanation. On my return, their staff gave me incorrect information, causing me to miss my bus. Worse still, their representatives were rude, incompetent, and unhelpful. Instead of acknowledging their mistake, they insisted I repurchase a ticket, despite the fault being theirs. Intercape’s service is shocking, their communication is misleading, and their operations are poorly managed. I will never use Intercape again and will strongly discourage others from doing so.

I am having the most horrible trip the bus is so cold to a point wherr I thought it had some cracks or the windows are open , the driver is refusing to turn on the heator, and he is so stubborn, tur ... The bus was late, the drivers were rude, made us stand in the rain while they stood in the bus to check our tickets. Stopped in Upington. Everybody had to get off the bus, and the bus just drove off w ... The bus was late, the drivers were rude, made us stand in the rain while they stood in the bus to check our tickets. Stopped in Upington. Everybody had to get off the bus, and the bus just drove off without telling the passengers what is happening. Another staff member came about 10 minutes later to ask us if any of the drivers communicated with us about what is going on, we said no, so he explained to us. I will not recommend their services to anyone, but because they know they are the only bus service on this route, they treat their customers like nothing. Never again!!!

My trip was pleasant. Just a space problem as I have had knee replacement surgery and it was a bit uncomfortable as I had nowhere to stretch my legs properly only when we stopped was I able to do that ...
