Spain: COVID-19 Travel Updates

Domestic Travel

The State of Alarm in Spain will last until including May 23, 2020. Mobility within and between regions will be restricted to exceptional situations depending on the phase of confinement and security from each region. Bus companies like ALSA or Avanza Grupo have limited their services. Traveling should be done alone and only in case of emergencies or for work-related activities.

International Travel

All borders are closed until further notice. Entry to Spain is possible only for residents of the country. The Foreign Affairs Office advises people who need to return to Spain to contact the Spanish embassy or consulate of the country where they are currently located.
MadridSpain has a lot to offer, from sandy beaches over national delicacies to famous art galleries: Due to the country’s past and its diverse landscapes, Spain is a nation characterized by contrasts. A good example is the region Andalusia, which offers both snow-capped mountains and vast beaches representing a perfect holiday destination for many types of travelers. Apart from its unique landscapes, Spain attracts many visitors thanks to its historical cities including, for instance, Granada with the famous castle Alhambra.
Taking the bus to Spain is perfect since it allows you to discover the country’s diversity in a comfortable and inexpensive way. One stop at your bus trip through Spain should be Barcelona: Enjoy relaxed evenings in tapas bar, visit a game of the famous soccer club FC Barcelona or marvel at Antonio Gaudí’s inspiring architecture at the Sagrada Familia or the Park Güell. A detour to the country’s capital is also a must: Some of the most famous art galleries in the world are located in Madrid, including the Prado or the Reina Sofía Museum. If you are longing for more art and entertainment, then watching a play at the theatre or witnessing a flamenco show is highly recommended. In the north of Spain, you can find Bilbao, which is the home to Guggenheim Museum. To the east lies Pamplona, which is famous for its bull-fighting arenas. If you are looking for peace and quiet on your holiday, walking along the Camino de Santiago could be the right option for you: Thousands of pilgrims wander the famous trail every year heading towards Santiago de Compostela, where the grave of the apostle Jacob is supposed to be located. Next to art and nature, one of the major attractions in Spain is the country’s cuisine: Why not try some traditional Valencian Paella or a plate of fresh sea fruit. The many tapas bars allow you to take a bite of Iberian ham, ranked among the best in the world, or Manchego cheese. A glass of some of the finest Spanish wine and a little bowl of olives goes along with every meal.
Traveling through Spain is cheap thanks to the many bus connections linking cities within Spain and in many other European countries. Inexpensive tickets are available from many bus companies, including ALSA, Avanza Grupo and Autocares Grupo Samar. It is not hard to find the perfect bus route from Barcelona to Madrid, from Córdoba to Seville or from Granada to Valencia.
