As Spain’s largest city and capital, Madrid remains the country’s geographical, cultural and historic heart. Get swept back in time with a stroll through “El Madrid de los Austrias,” the city’s historic center which dates back to the Habsburg kings, and the site of many impressive buildings, such as the Plaza Mayor and the Casa de las Siete Chimeneas. The city’s most popular market, El Rastro, is filled with unique antiques and local vendors, and the Gran Vía is the perfect place for a shopping spree. Madrid’s history of art and culture can easily be observed in one of the many museums, including the Prado Museum, with European art dating back to the 12th century, and the Reina Sofía Museum for more contemporary works. The Santiago Bernabéu is the home stadium of the award-winning Real Madrid football club. The city is also known for its lively night life with a range of clubs and tapas bars to choose from.

As the capital city, Madrid is well integrated into the Spanish network of buses. Nearly every Spanish bus provider, particularly ALSA, Autocares Grupo Samar, and Avanza Grupo, serve a bus terminal in Madrid, as well as several international operators, such as Eurolines Germany and FlixBus. The city’s most popular bus stations include: Madrid Intercam Av. America, Madrid South Bus Station, and Madrid Príncipe Pío.
